Who would ever think the very urban city of Vallejo would boast some of the most peacefull , uncrowded settings in the entire Bay Area. Well thanks to the recent decomission of Mare Isaland and subsequent Bay Trail growth we have an amazing spot that would make for a meditation retreat. To date, few seem to have found it yet, so all the better for you until the secret is out to the masses. Until then, enjoy…

Directions:

  • Curtola Parkway becomes Mare Island Way
  • Left on Mare Island Causeway
  • Left on Azuar  until you see the Bay Trail sign and turn right and go about a mile.
  • If you go too far you’ll find some more delightful ‘old Mare Island’ redeveloped nicely which you might like to expore.

‘A TIMELESS VISTA’  This scenic vista affords a feeling of solitude and an immersion into the natural world, unlike most other parts of the Bay  Area, as the below sign tell us)  Pictures don’t to it justice. You must be there to take in the quiet sun-kissed mudflats and estuary of Mare Iland

Follow the new trail which will circle around – a nice 2-3 mile hike or bike (though biking
is not allowed, so the sign says. Not sure why. It’s far enough away from the water and birds. theonly Bay Trail we’ve been to yet that doesn’t allow bicycles.)
