#2 HUELL HOWSER’S GREATEST HITS – PINK’S HOT DOGS, Los Angeles

Here’s a real gem, going all the way back to 1981 and Howser’s first travel program.
shortly after he ventured out to California from his native Tennessee. Here Huell runs into actor TONY DANZA, another real mensch, one of a number of celebrities who frequent the popular La Brea Ave
fast food stand.

PINK’S HOT DOGS is legendary in Los Angeles. Even celebrity’s like Danza and Pat Boone.
whose new picture on the wall is mentioned. Danza gets a plug in for his new movie (at the time).
We don’t really learn much about Pink’s but it’s a nice visit with Danza.

Pink’s was founded by Paul and Betty Pink in 1939 as a pushcart near the corner of La Brea and Melrose.[8] The Great Depression was still having an impact on the country, and money was scarce. People could purchase a chili dog made with Betty’s own chili recipe accompanied by mustard and onions on a steamed bun for 10 cents each. As business grew, thanks to Betty’s chili and the custom-made Hoffy-brand hot dogs with their natural casings, so did Pink’s. The family built the current building in 1946 at 709 North La Brea
