Perhaps the best – and FREE – Concert of the summer… Thousands packed on the College Green
under beautiful summer eveninig skies, listening to REAL music. You can take your Michael Bubbles…
I’d never heard of STEVE LIPPIA, but
he sounded much like Sinatra, with that rich bass (or baritone?) timbre in his voice. Never heard
anyone better interpret Sinatra songs. Of course Tony Bennett has his own great style.
Lipia had a good way with the erudite crowd, too, as he ran throught e Sinatra songbook.
He commented how singers today don’t do ballads, as he launched into
a beautiful sinatra piece about losing. I would say
that there aren’t much of ANY songs today.
Not far down the road I happened to run into this timewarp
tiki bar, Bamboo. It’s one of the top two or three
classic palaces remaining in the Bay Area. Though
it’s now a run of gthe milll bar, if nothing else it still
has the classic sign out front. Will have to
explore further with time…
Remembering Huell Howser, who if he hasn’t been there
would surely want to go…
